The Scroope’s Wedgetail Eagle Initiative
In 2025, a rare baby wedge-tailed eagle was discovered on a private property in Mount Cotton. Named Casey, the young eagle was carefully rescued and rehabilitated by the incredible team at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary before being successfully released back into the wild near his parents’ nest.
Casey’s story is a powerful reminder of how closely our lives intersect with native wildlife here in the Redlands — and how vulnerable these animals can be without care, awareness, and protection.
Inspired by this experience, the Scroope family are launching a WWF-backed initiative to raise funds for research, monitoring, and protection of wedge-tailed eagles and their habitats. While wedge-tailed eagles are an iconic Australian species, local populations face ongoing threats including habitat loss, human disturbance, and environmental change. Supporting research and conservation efforts is essential to ensure these birds continue to soar across our landscapes for generations to come.
All donations will go toward:
Supporting scientific research and monitoring of wedge-tailed eagles
Protecting and restoring critical habitats
Raising community awareness about coexisting with native wildlife
Strengthening conservation efforts led by trusted environmental organisations
This initiative is about slowing down, paying attention, and choosing to care. Casey’s return to the wild shows what’s possible when people, conservation experts, and community come together.
By donating, you’re helping protect not just one eagle — but the future of a species and the ecosystems they depend on.
Thank you for being part of this journey, and for helping Australia’s wildlife thrive. 🌿🦅
