Make Every Hectare Count
At Downforce Technologies our mission is to make every hectare count in increasing the Soil Organic Carbon stocks in agricultural land.
We are inspired by the work of WWF-Australia, so we wanted to raise money by going wild and raising funds to help save the ecosystems on this beautiful planet.
The Australian Downforce Technologies team will each cover 128km in the month of October - this represents the total of 100 million tonnes of carbon a 1% increase in Soil Organic Carbon across Australia's agricultural land would sequester.
- 63 million hectares of agricultural land in Australia
- 12,700 million tonnes of carbon estimated currently
- 1% increase would result in 12,827 million tonnes
Downforce Technologies is a pioneering leader in science-led, data-driven land management solutions focused on optimising soil health, soil organic carbon levels and biodiversity. With over 30% of the world's soil already degraded, urgent action is needed to address this pressing global challenge.
Soil erosion not only threatens global food security but also exacerbates climate change by releasing carbon into the atmosphere. At Downforce Technologies, our mission is to combat soil degradation head-on, ensuring a resilient and thriving planet for future generations. We revolutionise land management with our science-led, data-driven platform, empowering farmers, landowners and supply chains to make informed decisions that preserve and restore soil health on a global scale.
Agriculture is a significant emitter of greenhouse gases but increasing average soil organic carbon in cropland and pasture by 1 per cent globally, could lead to carbon sequestration of 311 GtCO2e, the equivalent of the 2030 emissions reductions gap.
1% SOC INCREASE CHALLENGE RULES
1. Measurement:
1.1 Must be tracked in Strava (if it's not on Strava it didn't happen)
1.2 Each activity must have a corresponding photo o the participant during and at the end of the activity - at the least at the end. (No photo no activity counted)
2. Accepted Activities:
2.1 Walking & Running are accepted and will reflect at 1:1 ratio ie: 1km walk/run = 1km to target
2.3 Bike riding is accepted BUT ride length is divided by 3 - ie:30km bike = 10km to target
2.4 Swimming is accepted AND will be given 3 x distance ie: 1km swim = 3km to target
2.5 Surfing, knitting, rock-climbing, hang-gliding, ballooning, tiddlywinks are not acceptable and will not count. Any other sports can be submitted for approval to the Chair of the Rule & Metrics Control Committee.
3. Rule enforcement
3.1 All rule disputes and activity inclusion appeals will be reviewed by all members with an overriding veto vote for the Rules and Metric Control Committee Chair (Mr Ben Wark esq)
3.2 Any further disputes will go straight to the appeals committee - see 3.3
