I've created this page because I want to help save nature and our planet!
Hi there,
With the recent passing of Jane Goodall - a pioneering scientist, conservationist, and humanitarian - my passion for nature and wellbeing has been stirred.
The benefits of a healthy natural world to human health are undeniably connected.
Highly polluted environments cause human health issues:
"Public health concerns related to high air pollution exposures include cancer, cardiovascular disease, respiratory diseases, diabetes mellitus, obesity, and reproductive, neurological, and immune system disorders."
- National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
And we know:
"Trees help prevent flooding, release oxygen, reduce pollution, and boost both health and mood."
- Harvard Health Publishing, Harvard Medical School.
So, what's the problem?
First, I refreshed myself on how humans are contributing to natural world problems that affect human health. This led me to anthropogenic climate change from burning fossil fuels, deforestation, agriculture, industrial processes, waste management, etc.
Essentially, we humans (through products/services/systems we actively use and therefore support the continuation of) have created imbalances in the natural world to a degree that creates health issues to both environment and human body. We are contributing to unsustainable practices. We are causing our own health issues.
Now. Despite this knowledge, why are we still supporting unsustainable practices?
1. Lack of education.
2. Poverty.
3. Lack of willpower.
The power is in the people's hands for each reason of unsustainable practice contributions. With accurate knowledge, resources, and effort, each and every single person can contribute to sustainable practices and therefore end anthropogenic climate change. Every little change makes a difference.
There is hope for a healthy future.
I came across World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and looked over their impact stories. Suffice to say, there's a reason I have chosen to create this fundraiser through WWF.
Any donation you give to my fundraiser goes directly into the sustainable projects lead by WWF.
Thank you,
Emily
